6. Digitalizing workflow
- alcohol specimens are photographed “dry” or submerged in ethanol in small glass containers mainly in lateral view with scales and colour standard
- modern labels are either fully or partially (accession number only) depicted
- images are saved on memory card as jpeg files with ~5 MB, using an object code as a file name
- Data transfer to stationary computer
- Selection of best photos and saving in original format
- File names are renamed according to respective specimen accession numbers
- file-transfer to DWB and archiving using external hard disc
- Specimen data inserted via DiversityCollection Client to DC-database
- Specimen imaging with one picture takes between 2 and 5 minutes. The whole procedure including data transfer, renaming and local archiving takes roughly 10 minutes.
